Dr. Sharon Young, Ph.D., LMFT

I am married with two adult children from a previous marriage. My husband also has two children from a previous marriage. We have 8 grandchildren between us. I was married the first time at 20 years old and was divorced 8 years later. I was a single mother for 13 years before I remarried in 2007 after a three year courtship. It is obvious I like going to school but I also like to garden and I am a serious sports fan. My favorite sport is baseball. I currently live in Puyallup but I have also lived in Tacoma, Los Angeles, California and Boston, Massachusetts. I love my job as a therapist in a private practice setting. I get to help people find peace of mind using all of my education, job experience and personal experiences of life. 

A Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts in Boston. Graduated in 1979.  

A Masters of Science (M.S.) degree in Counseling Psychology from California State University in San Bernardino, California. Graduated in 1986.  

A Masters of Theological Studies (M.TS.) from Faith Theological Seminary in Tacoma, Washington. Graduated in 2004.  

A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Marriage and Family Systems from North Central University in Phoenix, Arizona. Graduated in August 2016. 

Infinite Possibilities has been in operation since January 2005 and is still in business to this day. In addition to her experience providing individual, marriage and family therapy in a private practice setting, Sharon has also worked in the following settings:   

Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, WA September 2008 to Present Clinical Supervisor – I provide supervision to Master Degree students at the PLU Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic.  

African American Resource Center, Tacoma, WA December 2002 to February 2006 Program Manager and Clinical Supervisor – Responsible for overseeing the delivery of services to foster children, ages 5 – 17, placed in the foster homes licensed by the agency. Also provided clinical supervision to the staff.  

Pierce Community College, Tacoma, WA September 2002 to September 2008 Online Instructor – Teach online college courses and foster parent workshops.  

Department of Social and Health Services, Olympia, WA October 1996 to November 2002 Unit Supervisor – Supervised six professional staff responsible for the management of a variety of services for adolescents’ youth involved with the state welfare system.  

Catholic Community Services, Tacoma, WA January 1993 to October 1996 Service Coordinator – Responsible for the overall operations of in – home clinical services for high-risk children and adolescents.  

Comprehensive Mental Health, Tacoma, WA August 1991 to January 1993Family Therapist – Provided family therapy services to children, adolescents and their families.  

Knollwood Psychiatric Hospital, Riverside, CA June 1989 to June 1991 Staff Therapist – Provided social support services to patients in a psychiatric hospital on the children, adolescent and adult services units.

Sharon works exclusively with adults 18 years and older and specializes in working with them around issues related to: 

• Relationship dynamics 
• Leadership development and impact of this role on family relationships 
• Integration of spiritual beliefs into day to day experiences

I have actively practiced my Christianity since 1989. During my years as a practicing Christian I have been the director of a children’s ministry, a teen ministry and served on a women’s ministry board. I was licensed by a local church to minister the gospel and have actively worked with people in both ministry and in my clinical practice on how to apply the word of God to their daily struggles. My goal in my ministry life is to bring to life the word of God and to help people experience the presence of God in all that they do.
